It depends on the operation, the patient’s medical conditions, complications (e.g. bleeding, infection, delayed recovery), pain relief, mobility, physical status and motivation of a patient, including:

• status/condition of the patient before and after the operation
• after-effects of the anesthesia / sedation / spinal anesthesia utilised during the procedure
• anticipated post-surgical care, as per care plan (dressing changes, packing changes, and monitoring of (any) surgical drains - if used)
• pain relief method and medication and possible side effects
• post surgical complications if there are any
