Pre-medication
Drugs may be given before an operation for anxiety, pain and/or sickness.
These may include pain killers, such as Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Codeine, Dihydrocodeine, Tramadol and others which you are normally taking.
You may also be given medication to relieve stress and anxiety before the operation, such as Midazolam, Lorazepam, Temazepam or Diazepam.
Another consideration is to apply EMLA or Ametop cream to your hands or arms to numb the skin for the insertion of a cannula into the vein.
