A flexible thin and long catheter (thin plastic tube) is inserted into one of the veins at the inside of the elbow. It is threated into the vein until its tip sits in a vein at the level of the uppr arm or shoulder area. It can be used for iv-fluids and certain medications (such as antibiotics) for several weeks. It is not suitable for chemotherapy or iv-feeding.
