Removal of the femoral head without prosthesis with limited mobility after the operation

  • Anaesthesia Spinal, +/- Nerve Block, +/- Sedation 
  • Anaesthesia II Epidural 
  • Nerve Blocks Fascia Iliaca, Femoral, Lumbar Plexus, Sciatic 
  • Pain mild-moderate (++) 
  • Post-op Pain Epidural Infusion 1-3 days, Local up to 4-8 hours, Nerve Block up to 10-30 hours 
  • Post-op Pain II Tablets, Injection (im, iv) 
  • Hospital Stay 1   to 2 weeks
  • Full Recovery 3   to 12 months
  • Additional Info Hip fractures are common / most of the patients are elderly / they can be dehydrated and malnourished / high risk of morbidity and mortality / in high risk patients the operation can be done under Local Anaesthesia alone
